Return of the Realist

After a long period of silence and reflection (ok, maybe I was really angry at politics), the blog will again be active and return next week with new features. Stay tuned.

The American Dream Act of 2010

If the Democrats were thinking right now, they would reframe the Immigration Reform argument to The American Dream Act of 2010. It's so perfect I can't believe they haven't thought of it yet. First of all, how do you attack it? If you try all I'm going to do is call you un-American for attacking the American Dream. Plus it gets rid of the negative narrative that surrounds the debate. No more Anti-immigrant or racial profiling. Now the goal of reform is centered on helping everyone attain the American Dream. You could even attach Wall Street Reform underneath. All of this would be part of the broad new national strategy, or the Democratic Contract with the American Dream. Yes I know, somebody should be paying me. Sigh…

The Tea Party Statue of Liberty

As written on the Statue of Liberty:

Give me your tired, your poor,
Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free,
The wretched refuse of your teeming shore.
Send these, the homeless, tempest-tossed to me,
I lift my lamp beside the golden door!"

If the Tea Party and the Republican Party could change it:

"Give me your healthy, your rich,

Your huddled few yearning for Theocracy,

The wealthy-white of your glowing elite.

Send these, the homeless, dark-skinned, away from me,

I lift my gun beside the exit sign!"

An E-mail to a Conservative Radio Host

(The bold lettering is what the radio host neglected to read over the air)

Dear (_______),
I hear may people frequently asking why liberals are obsessed with Sarah Palin. The obsession is the fact that so many conservatives actually believe the things she says, even though any person with a computer (or know American History) who spends 5 minutes fact checking her statements can clearly see she has no clue what she is talking about and often times is blatantly dishonest. We talk about her, because even liberals need a good laugh now and then and Sarah Palin provides and endless stream of punchlines without even having to change the words that come forth from her mouth. We're obsessed with the fact she hammered Obama on his "celebrity" then promptly left half way through her term as Governor of Alaska to become one. It's hilarious. We don't fear the fact she could run for President, we hope she does. I could care less how many millions she has made, but at the same time it is hard for her to paint herself as an everyday Hockey-mom when she makes more money than any Tea Party participant possibly will see in his/her lifetime. Why are so many conservatives obsessed with the liberal obsession to laugh impetuously at Sarah Palin? Why are we not allowed to laugh hysterically at the steady stream of millionaires like Sean Hannity, Glenn Beck, and now Sarah Palin who claim to have the best interests of the common middle class working American at heart when they clearly are not one of them? Listening to Sarah Palin's diatribes against Elitism is like listening to Karl Rove or Newt Gingrich give marriage advice. But hey, love the show. Keep it up. If not for liberals like me, for the good of all those real Americans out there.

UPDATE: Within 5 minutes of sending the above e-mail, he read it over the air and selectively edited out about half of it. The cycle continues.

UPDATE: After he read my letter on the air, this is the e-mail I sent in response to his comments. He said he didn't believe that I honestly thought she was funny, and went on to compare Sarah Palin to VP Joe Biden and the things he says.

Subj: Thanks for my 15 minutes

Thanks for reading my e-mail on the air. I'd love for you to read the whole thing, especially the part when I said I could care less about how much money she makes. If you could read the whole thing, like the part where I said "We're obsessed with the fact she hammered Obama on his "celebrity" then promptly left half way through her term as Governor of Alaska to become one" without selectively editing my comments, that would be great. Also, I loved your comparison to Biden. It's nice to laugh isn't it? My apologies for not pointing out that I'm an Independent, and not a Democrat. I should have mentioned that. I do consider myself a liberal, and it seems that automatically makes me a Democrat these days. I'm sorry you don't buy my sentiments, I wasn't aware honesty was disingenuous. Don't let your lack of faith in me get in the way of framing your narrative. Take care.

P.S. He's your President too, not just mine. As a Veteran, I didn't agree with everything Bush did while I was overseas, but he was still my Commander in Chief, and my democratically elected President. It doesn't matter if you like Obama or not, the office must be respected.
